    By the finish of the century, the entrepreneur, George Wood, turned curious in dairy farming and started a small factory in Wawa, Pennsylvania, in 1902.        In 1964, George Wood’s grandson, Graham Wood, opened the first Wawa food market after the decline of home milk deliveries.
  • The site states that “Wawa” is a Native American word for a Canada goose, which was identified in the Delaware Valley over a hundred years ago. The original dairy farm was built in a rural area of Pennsylvania, and the geese were often heard there, which is why the name Wawa was chosen. The company still uses the Canada goose as its symbol. According to spokesperson Laurie Bruce, the Canada goose is now both a real and symbolic representation of the company. Bruce mentioned in an email that just like the Canada geese flying in a “V” shape, Wawa values teamwork and motivation. This is regarded as a nice way to move ahead.    The company’s mascot is a large Canada goose named “Willie”. Wawa has always been part of our identity. It has been in the public eye in many ways, like through the creation of Wawa gas stations and setting an example in its service. This is what Wawa is all about – giving back.

  • We are an example of charity, inspired by their father’s example and their connection with the Children’s Hospital. Their father is different from other CEOs I’ve seen. He has compassion, humility, and puts people first, always putting himself second. In the 80s and 90s, as CEO of Wawa, he used to drive a Honda Accord. I was very proud of that. I thought it was so great. Everyone in the organization knew that nothing could beat a Honda Accord. Even though he never said it, he proved it by his actions. Everyone wanted to see that and admire it.

  • I often say that I share my father with those who see him as a father figure, and I have no problem with that. I am proud that so many people feel this way about him, and we get the chance to call him “Abu” (Dad). He loves being called “Papa,” and there’s a good reason for that. For various years, it was a privilege for me to support the Child Board outer Cities. There is no question about his service, loyalty, and leadership.  The Wood family simply gives without waiting for something in return. They don’t shy away from helping, and they enjoy doing it. People often talked about our great-grandfather. I called him “Festival Water,” and he was one of the founders of North America’s Insurance Company and the Philadelphia Bank. He was a real role model in business, and I see the Wood family’s hospitality as a second example of best values, mercy, and humility. He made many lives superior, which wouldn’t have been achievable without him and his family. Because of his power, the establishment of the hospital occurred.

And you will be a part of that, because children are the wish for the future, and you can make an actual difference.
    I had a fraternal twin named Randy who was born as a blue baby, and he passed away when he was only three or four months old. Today, treating such a situation wouldn’t be an issue. If you start operating with the Children’s Hospital, it becomes a part of your life. It feels really best to know that you are helping.
